2008 EVENING LEAGUE RULES & ENTRY FORM
Download the forms for this year's Evening League Competition.  The Evening League is one of the area's most successful & popular cycling events that has been running for over fifty years!   Club members compete against the clock at various distances throughout the summer every Tuesday evening.   Even those who have never thought to enter a time trial competition find this a very easy and friendly way to try it out and most get hooked!  One you put a time down, you'll always want to beat it.  Non-members get three chances to ride it and try it out before requiring to join the club (second claim if you are already in another club).  So come along to Longwick each Tuesday.
Click here to go to the Time Trials page where you can download the forms and get maps and locations

Bring Back Style to Bike Racing!
We're going to start a campaign here at HWCC to bring style back into cycling
From the earliest Tour there has been style in cycling.  Coppi in the 40's, Anquetil in the 50's even the 70's cycling managed to keep it's head and look cool.  But it all went wrong in the 80's didn't it?
These amazing pics of our club's own driving force, Gordon & Margaret look absolutely fantastic.  We want this style back please....
Check the December 2007 Sprocket for more Retro

Five Year Old makes HWCC Racing Debut

Club Hill Climb Championships 2006
The Club's Hill Climb record, set on the brutal Britwell hill near Christmas Common, was smashed by Mountain Biker & Road Racer - Matt Steven.

Britwell hill is a severe brute of a climb with a 15% gradient and its   ¾  mile length  presents an unforgiving exposed  challenge as riders heave themselves to the summit on  Christmas Common ridge.   There were other very good performances on the morning with a  3.02 for 4th place from Rob Barns, and   Brendan Divall 5th in 3.09.  Veteran Kevin Holloway  made a massive improvement  from  his 2005 vets records time when he came up the slopes in a  3.11 which was also good enough for 6th place.

New Club Record for David Millar
HWCC member David Millar, currently riding for Pro-Tour team Saunier-Duval broke the club 10 mile TT record at Longwick in early August 06.

In a star studded Tuesday Evening Club 10m TT both British National TT Champion Stuart Dangerfield AND Tour de France Stage winner, David Millar both competed in our club 10 on the Longwick course.  Stuart had just flown back from Australia and was riding the 10 just to 'spin the legs' .  Even so the 20'55" time he recorded with Clive Nicholls wasn't bad!

David Millar was using the Evening 10 as a warm-up for the Vuelta d'Espagna prologue and indicated that he is in very good form by smashing the club record by over a minute to record a 19'04" on a course not renowned for fast times.

All the official results are available in the Time Trials section

Etape du Tour 2006
Gap - Alpe D'Huez 190kms.

Well done to all those who entered the Etape du Tour for HWCC this year.  It was a magnificent effort and you'll be able to read all about it in the August Sprocket.

Simon JACKSON, James PATERSON, Paul MACE, James NORRIS, Neil WRAGG,  Daniel FORSTER, Patricia HICKS, John EDMONDSON, Jonathan SMITH, Terry RIDGLEY, Frank FALLON, Paul MORRISSEY, Andrew DAW

Cyclosportives
Both in the UK and Abroad, Wycombe riders are competing in the long, endurance style Cyclosport rides ever week.

Simon Jackson (left) recently won the first day of the Tour of Wessex and Greg Lewis (right) completed the brutal Megeve Cyclosportive in the French Alps in preparation for the Marmotte.

And the Tour of The Cotswolds (left) had five competitors from HWCC.  Neil, Matt, James, Dave & Paul.

Competition
Wycombe riders are competing in Road Races & Time Trials.

Paris-Roubaix, Giro d'Italia, Tour de France or Olympic Time Trial?  Want to be a compete cyclist?  Come along to the club and get all the help and support so you can start racing.

Naked in Wales
Yes, this is as bizarre as it looks.  .

Here is HWCC Member Gary Marshall on his mountain biking stag weekend in Wales.  It's 5 degrees, his friends have taken his top off and his Best Man, Dave Johnson is bending down in front of him taking off his shorts.  Find out why at the pub on Wednesday.

Kingcycle Testing
Has been taking place at the Clubhouse over the last couple of weeks.

All members have the facility to get their power output tested by leading National Coach and Club President Dr Gordon Wright.  The results can then be structured into a personal training plan enabling you to train far more accurately than without.  Thresholds can be identified which means you can train at or below these limits far more effectively.

And there is nothing like getting a head start on the competition!  HWCC's Youth Development Squad is quick to spot talent!

RIP.  Paul Burnett
A member for over 50 years, Paul Burnett sadly passed away just before Christmas.

HWCC Hill Climb & Downhill Champs 2005
Over 35 riders turned up to compete in the Club Hill Climb Championships.

Well, 35 riders turned up but a couple took one look at the ascent and then promptly disappeared (and they were mountain bikers)!  The climb of Britwell Salome is a fearsome 12.5% gradient for nearly a mile  but 30 riders set down their time for the climb with Paul Mace setting a new club  record of 2'44".   Afterwards the less strenuous but more skilful Downhill Championships was won by John "Hip Waggling" Day.

HWCC Iron Persons
Well done to Dave 'Never Give Way' Johnson for completing his Ironman Triathlon and getting a superb 6th place.
For more info click here....

Well done as well to Heather 'Never Dont Smile' Spittles for her personal best performance in this summer's half-Ironman Triathlon.

For the record an Ironman Triathlon is a 2.4 mile swim then a 122 mile cycle race followed by just a 26 mile marathon.
