Frequently Asked Questions on Timetrialling

Time Trials (TTs) can really provide that extra bit of ‘intensity’ to boost your training and riding the same course over a season gives a very good way of judging fitness.

This Q&A applies to the club events, normally held on a Tuesday evening through the summer, not Open TTs. Club events can be entered on the line, whilst Open events are by prior entry only – no entry on the line. For people wanting to enter Open events, we suggest that you buy a copy of the CTT Handbook here. There may have some available for members, so ask at the club night on Wednesdays. The London West District (www.lwdc.co.uk) have a very useful event calendar, and also have a handbook for bedtime reading.

So you want to Time Trial….

The time trial, or ‘TT’, is often a first step into competitive road cycling. Competitors, individuals or teams, set off at intervals and are timed over a fixed distance course. A time trial can be test of a rider’s ability to beat earlier personal bests, or effectively a race in which riders compare their performances to others. There are few tactics; in a time trial you ride against the watch – with no one to slipstream or set the pace.

Evening League 2012

The rules, entry form and timetable have been uploaded to the Time Trial League Page.

Please note that the first evening events are normally oversubscribed, and the first 31 numbers are reserved for HWCC members who’ve entered the league. As the daylight available extends the allowable number of riders increases – you’re not allowed to race in the dark!

The club have added a Veteran Ladies category to the league this year, so request that ladies entering this competition accurately report their age (confidentially) to the league committee.

Any questions on the rules or rides, please contact the league organiser – Alasdair MacVarish. Contact details are on the entry form.
