Road Racing allows both individuals and teams to
compete against each other on the open road. For
some people there is nothing like the thrill of
riding in the bunch or 'peleton' with riders
attacking and counter attacking throughout the
race. A big part of road racing is your skill in
bunch riding and the ability to put on explosive
bursts of power when needed.
Tactics are what generally make the best riders
better than the competition, knowing when to
break away, counter attack or chase down. It can
be a complex but highly enjoyable experience!
Riders of all abilities can get involved with
road racing, although you will need to join a
club such as High Wycombe CC and then join
British Cycling to gain your road racing
licence. Riders are set in categories according
to your ability with the lowest being cat 4 and
the highest being Elite. You can choose to enter
local road races or opt for closed circuit
racing at tracks such as Hillingdon or Milton
Keynes Bowl. These circuits are a great way to
learn the peloton craft needed to make a great
road racer and they also offer a good program of
racing against riders of the same ability in a
safe environment.
High Wycombe CC host a road in July 2008.
Contact our race organiser
